Wizz Air Announces New Routes and 26th Base in Chisinau

1 Based Airbus A320, 2 New Routes And Frequency Increases From March

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, this week announced it will begin base operations at Chisinau International Airport with one Airbus A320 aircraft and add two new routes to Europe from March 2017. Wizz Air will launch new twice-weekly services from Chisinau to Berlin Schönefeld and Barcelona. With these new destinations, Wizz Air’s network from Moldova consists of seven routes to four countries.

WIZZ started operating low fare flights from Chisinau in September 2013 gradually growing the low-fare network from Moldova and providing more opportunities for affordable air travel. With over 350,000 seats on sale in 2017, representing a 41% increase year on year, Chisinau is becoming Wizz Air’s 26th base and Moldova is becoming the 14th country where WIZZ has base operations.

Speaking at a press conference in Chisinau today, George Michalopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air said: “Wizz Air has been present in Moldova for over three years and today I am thrilled to announce the basing of our first aircraft in Chisinau from March 2017. Our investment will contribute to the local economy as well as create a number of local jobs both with Wizz Air and our local business partners while allowing us to bring more low fare routes to Moldova. We look forward to welcoming our Chisinau passengers on board, as well as visitors to Moldova that can now enjoy our outstanding professional services and low fares on seven routes to four countries.”
